Michelin has awarded a third star to Enrico Crippa's restaurant Piazza Duomo in Alba. Al Sorriso in Soriso has lost its third star, the number of three-star restuarants in Italy therefore still stands at 7. The other six three-star restaurants are: Da Vittorio in Brusaporto, Dal Pescatore in Canneto sull'Oglio, Le Calandre in Rubano, Osteria Francescana in Modena, Enoteca Pinchiorri in Florence and La Pergola in Rome.

The 2013 guide also features three new two-star restaurants, Antica Osteria Cera in Lughetto di Campagna Lupia, Agli Amici in Udine and La Trotta in Rivodutri. Italy now has a total of 39 two-star restaurants.
After last year's whopping 33 new one-star restaurants, this year only 10 restaurants were awarded their first Michelin star. Among the new entries are: Vun in Milano, Metamorfosi, Pipero al Rex and La Terrazza (all located in Rome) and Il Comandante in Naples. The 2013 guide will feature 261 one-star restaurants in total.
In the Bib Gourmand category Michelin has awarded this accolade to 51 new restaurants, taking the the total number of Bib Gourmands in this guide to 277.
