Michelin has awarded three stars to DiverXO in Madrid. Thirty-three year old chef David Muñoz, who trained at London's Nobu and Hakkasan, was awarded his first Michelin star in 2009, a second followed in 2011 (2012 guide). Michael Ellis, chief-inspector at Michelin: "David's energy, and cutting edge concepts have been inspired by his travels , EoF Japan, China and Europe, and his creations are rich in textures, flavors and aromas that can surprise and astonish".

Spain now has 8 three-star restaurants: Quique Dacosta in Dénia, Alicante, Akelare and Arzak in Donostia-San Sebastián, Martin Berasategui in Lasarte-Oria, El Celler de Can Roca in Girona, Azurmendi in Larrabetzu and Sant Pau in Sant Pol de Mar. With 8 three-star restaurants, Spain takes third place in Europe, after Germany (11) and France (27).
In the two-star category, two restaurants in Spain gained this accolade this year: El Portal in Ezcaray (La Rioja) and M.B. in Guía de Isora, Martín Berasategui's Tenerife restaurant. Two-star restaurant Can Fabes (formerly of three-star Santi Santamaria fame), which closed this year, is no longer featured in the Michelin guide. Spain now has 17 two-star restaurants; Portugal has 2.
A whopping 20 restaurants in Spain have been awarded their first star in the 2014 guide. Among the winners are Tickets and 41° in Barcelona, a tapas and cocktail bar run by by Ferran Adrià and his brother Albert, which opened in 2011. Portugal gains two new one-star restaurants in the 2014 guide, Eleven in Lisbon and L'and Vineyards in Monremor-o-Novo. Spain now has a total of 134 one-star restaurants and Portugal has 10.
In the Bib Gourmand category (3 courses for €35 in Spain and €30 in Portugal) Michelin has awarded 48 restaurants in Spain this accolade and 3 in Portugal, taking the the total number of Bib Gourmands in this guide to 219 in Spain and 34 in Portugal.
