In Amsterdam this morning, Michelin announced the Michelin stars 2016 for the Netherlands. The Dutch guide will hit the shelves on 10 December 2015.

De Groene Lantaarn in Zuidwolde has been promoted to two stars, taking the number of two-star restaurants in the Netherlands up to 20. Michelin praises chef Jarno Eggen's creative and technically skilled cooking, resulting in a delicious interplay of intense flavours.

Jonnie Boer's De Librije in Zwolle and Jacob Jan Boerma's De Leest in Vaassen both keep their 3-star rating in the 2016 guide. De Librije has held 3 Michelin stars since 2004.


The 2016 guide will feature 85 one-star restaurants, with 7 newcomers:

• Joelia at the Hilton Hotel in Rotterdam. Head chef at Joelia is Mario Ridder, who previously earned two Michelin stars for De Zwethheul in Schipluiden (near Rotterdam). Ridder relocated De Zwethheul to Rotterdam in February 2015, and renamed the restaurant to Joelia reflecting a new (more casual) concept). 
• Aan De Zweth in Schipluiden, a new restaurant occupying the previous location of the aforementioned De Zwethheul (opened in January 2015)
• De Heeren van Harinxma in Beesterzwaag, a restaurant located on a country estate in Friesland. Head chef is Arjan Bisschop.
• Zarzo in Eindhoven. Spanish born chef Adrian Zarzo's first restaurant, which opened in 2013. Adrian Zarzo has trained at the then 3-star Parkheuvel in Rotterdam and at Santi Santimaria's 3-star Can Fabes in Spain. 
• Het Roode Koper in Ermelo. The restaurant is housed in a Relais & Chateaux property, and head chef is Dennis van den Beld, who previously worked at 2-star De Lindenhof in Giethoorn, among others
• De Swarte Ruijter in Holten. Also housed in a hotel. Head chef is Erik Mönnink.
• Strandlodge in Winterswijk. Head chef is Mike Vrijdag, who co-owns the restaurant.

Surprisingly there were no deletions of stars this year. Record-holder of a Michelin star in the Netherlands is De Kromme Dissel in Heelsum, who has held the one-star accolade for 45 years.

The Dutch Bib Gourmand results were unveiled last month in the 2016 Bib Gourmand Benelux guide. The Benelux guide covers restaurants in restaurants in Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. The 2016 edition features 133 Bib Gourmand (a quality meal for €37) restaurants in the Netherlands, with 25 newly awarded restaurants. Rotterdam has 3 new entries: BasQ Kitchen, Kwiezien and Umami by Han, but there are no new additions in the other main cities.
