Michelin has released their 2011 guide for Belgium and Luxembourg.
Two restaurants in Belgium have been rewarded a second star, Nuance in Duffel (1st star in 2010) and Aan tafel bij Luc Bellings in Hasselt.
Belgium now has a total of 2 three-star restaurants (De Karmeliet in Bruges and Hof van Cleve in Kruishoutem) and 14 two-star restaurants. De Karmeliet has had 3 stars since 1996 and Hof van Cleve since 2005.
Michelin awarded 8 restaurants their first star, which brings the number of one-star restaurants in Belgium to 86.
The list of Michelin starred restaurants in Luxembourg remains unchanged. Luxembourg has 1 two-star restaurant (Mosconi in Luxembourg city) and 12 one-star restaurants. Mosconi is the only Italian restaurant outside Italy to hold 2 Michelin stars.
Since 2007 Belgium and Luxembourg have had their own Michelin Guide. Before 2007 there was the "Benelux" guide for Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands do share the Bib Gourmand guide. The Bib Gourmand 2011 guide was released in the first week of November. Belgium has 123 entries in this guide and Luxembourg has 8.
Tomorrow Michelin will announce the 2011 stars for the Netherlands. Obviously you can read all about it on Elizabeth On Food.
