Today Michelin has released the Great Britian & Ireland 2011 guide. The 2011 guide is a special edition to mark Michelin's 100th Anniversary in the UK.
The great news is that 2 restaurants have been awarded a second star, Hélène Darroze at the Connaught in London and restaurant Nathan Outlaw in Rock (Cornwall).
In spite of massive speculation Gorden Ramsay at Royal Hospital Road retains its three stars. The UK still has a total of 4 three-star restaurants. Two in London, Gordon Ramsay at Royal Hospital Road (since 2001) and Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester (since 2010), and 2 three-star restaurants in Bray-on-Thames, Heston Blumenthal's The Fat Duck (since 2004) and the Waterside Inn (since 1985). The Waterside inn, run by the legendary Roux family has held a Michelin star since the first Michelin guide was published in 1974.
The total of two-star restaurants in the Great Britain and Ireland guide is now 16; 14 in England (of which 8 in London) and 1 in both Scotland and Ireland.
Twelve restaurants have been awarded their first star, these new restaurant are all in England and 7 of them are in London. The 2011 guide features a total of 123 one-star restaurants.
The Great Britain & Ireland 2011 guide has a total of 143 Michelin starred restaurants. The number of Bib Gourmand entries in the 2011 guide is 118.
