In the 11th edition of the New York City guide Michelin has awarded a second star to The Modern, a restaurant part of Danny Meyer's Union Square Hospitality Group. Executive chef at The Modern since March 2014 is Abram Bissell. Michelin on The Modern in their press release: "Under the direction of Chef Abram Bissell, The Modern demonstrated creative and contemporary cuisine, complemented by bright and fresh flavours."
New York City now has 10 two-star restaurants.
The number of three-star restaurants in New York City remains at 6: Eleven Madison Park (Daniel Humm), Per Se (Thomas Keller), Chef's Table at Brooklyn Fare (César Ramirez), Le Bernardin (Eric Ripert), Jean Georges (Jean Georges Vongerichten) and Masa (Masa Takayama).

In the one-star category Michelin has awarded 10 restaurants this accolade, taking the number of one-star restaurants in New York City up to 60 (58 in the 2015 guide).
New York City's new one-star restaurants are:
- Cagen (East Village - Japanese cuisine - chef: Toshio Tomita, formerly of Nobu)
- The Finch (Brooklyn - chef: Gabe McMackin, formerly of Blue Hill at Stone Barns and Gramercy Tavern - opened September 2014)
- Gabriel Kreuther (Midtown West - chef: Gabriel Kreuther, formerly of The Modern - opened June 2015)
- Hirohisa (SoHo - Japanese cuisine)
- Rebelle (SoHo - chef: Daniel Eddy, formerly of Daniel Rose's Spring in Paris - opened April 2015)
- Semilla (Brooklyn - chef: José Ramírez-Ruiz, formerly of Per Se and Brooklyn Fare - opened October 2014)
- Somtum Der (East Village - Thai cuisine)
- Sushi Yasuda (Midtown West - Japanese cuisine)
- Tempura Matsui (Midtown West - New York City's first tempura omakase restaurant - chef: Masao Matsui - opened July 2015)
- Uncle Boons (Nolita - Thai cuisine)
As announced by Michelin last week, the 2016 New York City guide features 133 restaurants (27 newly awarded) in the Bib Gourmand category. Michelin introduced Bib Gourmands in the New York City guide in 2007 and the accolade is awarded to restaurants that serve 2 courses and a glass of wine or dessert for $40 or less. A noteworthy new entry is Untitled, a restaurant by Danny Meyer at the Whitney Museum of American art, which opened in spring 2015. Also included in the 2016 guide is iconic deli Katz's, one of the few places who's held a Bib Gourmand since the 2007 guide.
