Michelin has awarded Funky Gourmet in Athens a second Michelin star. Head chefs at Funky Gourmet are Georgianna Hiliadaki and Nick Roussos. Michelin on Funky Gourmet: "the food has immeasurable thought, creativity and above all the taste which matches the playfulness".
The 2014 guide features 81 two-star restaurants, with 10 new entries. The other 9 already featured in previously released country guides. There are 2 new two-star restaurants in Germany (Frankfurt and Berlin), 1 in Belgium (Brussels), 3 in the Netherlands (Amsterdam and Rotterdam), 1 in France (Paris) and 2 in the United Kingdom (London).
In the three-star category there is one new entry, DiverXo in Madrid (announced by Michelin in November 2013). The number of three-star restaurants in the Main Cities of Europe guide stands at 15, of which 10 are located in France (Paris and Lyon), 2 in Italy (Florence and Rome), 1 in Spain (Madrid) and 2 in the United Kingdom (London).
Now fewer than 16 restaurants debut in the 2014 guide with one Michelin star. The winners are:
Vienna, Austria: Konstantin Filippou (opened in March 2013), Edvard at the Palais Hansen Kempinski Hotel, Restaurant Vincent and vegetarian restaurant Tian.
Copenhagen, Denmark: Clou, a restaurant by Jonathan (chef) and Alexander (sommelier) Kjølhede Berntsen, Marchal restaurant at Hotel d'Angleterre and Claus Meyer's new jazz restaurant Studio at The Standard building. Studio opened in October 2013, co-owner and head chef is Noma alumnus Torsten Vildgaard.
Helsinki, Finland: Chef & Sommelier (chef: Sasu Laukkonen) and Ask (chef: Filip Langhoff).
Oslo, Norway: Ylajali (chef: Even Ramsvik) and Fauna (chef: Noma alumnus Jo Bøe Klakegg).
Gothenburg, Sweden: Bhoga, a restaurant run by Niclas Yngvesson and Gustav Knutsson.
Stockholm, Sweden: Oaxen Krog, the fine dining restaurant of chef Magnus Ek at Oaxen Krog & Slip and Operakällaren (chef: Stefano Catenacci).
Athens, Greece: Botrini's.
Budapest, Hungary: Borkonyha Winekitchen.
With these new additions the 2014 Main Cities of Europe guide counts 350 one-star restaurants in total.
The 2014 edition also features 55 new entries in the Bib Gourmand category. New entries that were not published previously in country guides are: 5 in Vienna, Austria, 3 in Copenhagen, Denmark, 2 in Helsinki, Finland, 1 in Budapest, Hungary, 1 in Warsaw, Poland and 1 in Stockholm, Sweden. Notable new entries are: Bror in Copenhagen and Oaxen Slip in Stockholm.
